On what grew into an epic night, Australia's women's 4x100 medley team smashed its own world record, set at the Athens Olympics two years ago, to make a total of 16 gold medals in 19 races for the women.

Jessicah Schipper and Stephanie Rice each won their second gold of the Games, Schipper in the butterfly, the previously unknown Rice in the 400 metres individual medley.
Soon after, the women's medley team spectacularly outdid themselves, which meant Libby Lenton finished the meet with five gold medals and Jones four golds and two world records.
