Clubs can utilise General Gymnastics as a starting point for teaching the fundamentals, before gymnasts specialise in any of the other 6 GymSports.
Alternatively, clubs may focus on developing General Gymnasts with diverse skills, adaptable to a variety of movement experiences.

Kindergym and Cheerleading fall into the above categories and therefore come under the General Gymnastics Banner.

General gymnastics General Gymnastics is one of the eight Gymsports officially recognised by Gymnastic Organisations worldwide.
General Gymnastics is a dynamic sport with new forms of movement and/or adaptations of current movement forms being seen continually across the world reflecting unique national cultures and trends.

The form of gymnastics carried out at this time is what we know today as General Gymnastics - specifically designed to enhance participant's health and physical fitness and/or participated in purely for enjoyment and simple relaxation.
However, it was only in 1984, during an International Gymnastic Congress, that General Gymnastics was officially recognised by the International Gymnastic Federation as a Sport Program, then subsequently recognised by National Gymnastic Federations across the World.
These figures support the fact that General Gymnastics is the sport for all element of Gymnastics and provides something for everybody.
General Gymnastic activities contribute to the development of general sport skills, fitness, health, important movement patterns and daily life skills.
