New Spanish Translation uploaded: Takemusu Aiki - Lectures of O'Sensei (1) Posted by Grazia Di Giorgio on October 9th, 2006
Thanks to the efforts of our volunteer translator Fernando Gómez and the additional help of Miguel Ãngel Samper and Tomás Escamilla, we have just uploaded the first of a series of lectures by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido.
Many of these translations are being used by teachers and practitioners all over the world to enhance their own practice and their students’ understanding of Aikido, while at the same time fostering connections within the international community of Aikidoka all over the world, and stimulating the exchange of ideas across all kinds of language, race, and religion barriers.
As a result of the work of these great volunteers, we now have a large number of Aikido Journal articles available to our readers in 22 different languages.
We are constantly adding new articles and translations in our effort to document aikido and related disciplines past and present.
But pretending has nothing to do with either Budo, self defence or anything remotely resembling anything and especially not Aikido.

"The more I wrote, the more enchanted with both Sumi and Onisaburo I became.
As Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba writes in the introduction: "Takemusu Aiki is a collection of talks by the founder of aikido, Morihei Ueshiba.
I have come to hold the belief that the most important task for Aikido since the war has been to conform our way of thinking, teaching and philosophy to the trends of the time.
They have been published on Aikido Journal thanks to Sonoko Tanaka's translation and her effort in researching the material for the footnotes.
Of the numerous books on aikido, Takemusu Aiki is the work most representative of O-Sensei’s thinking and strongly speaks to us about fundamental truths.

As you know, the signficance of the Path O-Sensei illuminated has attracted attention in various fields since he taught about the relationship between body and spirit, especially at a time when mental disorders are considered universally to be a great social problem and this fact has contributed to the growth of aikido.
In addition to the DVD set, Nishio Sensei published a wonderful book titled Aikido: Yurusu Budo in 2004.
In my opinion, if Aikido is publicized and many people are afforded the opportunity of practicing, there will always be a certain number of persons who are very good at the art.

Many aikidoka of the Ueshiba persuasion (and I'm one, too, so don't get your sensibilities twisted into a knot) seem to think of it as referring *only* to Ueshiba Morihei sensei.
An Update from the Translation Project Posted by Grazia Di Giorgio on October 5th, 2006
As some of you may already know, Aikido Journal has an ongoing translation project that is almost entirely volunteer-run (I am the only AJ staff involved, and my role is to coordinate the volunteer translators’ work and post it on the Journal).
